The Copywriting Process

Here’s a quick overview of my typical copywriting process, from initial enquiry to copy completion.

1: Copywriting enquiry

Make an enquiry via the form below or email me directly elizabeth@elizabethwilsoncopywriting.com and tell me briefly what you need - full website content, a new webpage, partner bios, a brochure, blog or award submission. A website link is helpful at this stage if you have one.

If you’re working with a web developer or designer, that’s fine. I regularly collaborate with other teams to make sure the copy fits seamlessly.

2: Follow-Up & Clarification

I’ll reply via email to confirm key details and ask a few initial questions about your project. We can also schedule a short Zoom, Teams or phone call to say hello, talk through your objectives, and make sure we’re a good fit before work begins.

If you’re working to a tight deadline, just let me know. I’m used to supporting urgent requests where possible.

3: Copywriting Quote & Agreement

If you’d like to progress, I’ll provide a fixed-fee quote outlining deliverables, timelines and inclusions so we’re aligned before work begins. For larger projects (such as full website rewrites), I usually provide a proposal to outline structure and approach for each page.

Once approved, I’ll send a Copywriting Agreement to sign and return.

4: Insight - Business, Audience & Industry

I’ll gather the context I need about your business, audience, industry and tone - either over email or a call, depending on what suits your availability.

This ensures the copy reflects your expertise and supports client decision-making.

5: Drafting your copy 

Once I have what I need, I’ll begin drafting your content.

I’ll keep you updated and check in if any clarification is required along the way.

You’ll receive your first draft within the agreed timeframe.

6: Copy Refinements

Most clients love their copy straight away - I don’t deliver placeholder text or rough drafts. Every version is clear, considered and written with your audience in mind. If you’d like to adjust tone or emphasis, or add additional information, just let me know. We’ll fine-tune the wording so the final version is client-ready.

7: Final Delivery & Handover

Once you’re happy with the copy, I’ll provide the final version for handover, ready for web upload, design, print or publication.

8: Copywriting Invoice

I’ll invoice you once the final version of your copy has been sent across.

Payment terms are 14 days.
