Press Release & PR Copywriting for Corporate & Professional Clients
Have important news to share but no dedicated PR agency?
I’m a journalist-trained, senior PR professional with nearly 30 years’ experience helping businesses craft media-worthy stories, from strategic announcements to major milestones.
Drafting press releases and PR copy requires a unique skill set distinct from other forms of copywriting - I excel at creating compelling stories that news outlets can use directly.
My services help corporates, professional services firms and reputation-critical brands be heard, understood and respected in their industry.
Press Release & PR Copywriting Services: How it works
Here's a quick run-through of a typical press release writing process from brief to issuing, when you work with me as your press release and PR copywriter.
THE PRESS RELEASE BRIEF: WHAT’S THE NEWS?
We’ll begin by confirming the news angle - whether it’s a business milestone, new product, key appointment or industry achievement. I’ll review the relevant background, identify the people to interview, and gather supporting data so we can establish a clear, compelling story.
PR INTERVIEWS: TALKING TO THOSE IN THE KNOW
I’ll arrange interviews with the key spokespeople - from CEOs and Partners to senior leaders and subject-matter experts. Interview questions are prepared in advance, so no one needs to think on the spot. Additional information can be provided after the interview if needed.
PRESS RELEASE DRAFTING: CREATING YOUR PR PIECE
Once I have the details, I’ll draft your press release with a strong media angle, supported by factual clarity and relevant quotes. As a journalist-trained PR specialist, I structure the story the way editors expect - leading with the who, what, why, where, when and how. Notes to Editors are included to support context and follow-up.
PRESS RELEASE REVISION: AMENDMENTS & revisions
I’ll send through your first draft for review and approval circulation in the business. Feel free to make any changes to the press release and the quotes I’ve used from your PR interviews. I’ll use the best ‘soundbites’ of the interviews, so that everything that’s said in your press release enhances the story.
PRESS RELEASE ISSUING: MEDIA DISTRIBUTION
Once you’ve approved the press release, it’s over to you to distribute to your target media. Pro-tip: Give the news desks a call and let them know the story you’re sending on email. It’s best if you issue press releases internally (rather than using me as the media contact), as this helps to build up and strengthen your media relationships with your key trade press. So that when they need expert commentary from within your industry, they know who to call.
press release use: internal & social MEDIA
Now your story is with the media, announce it internally, on your website, and on your socials. If you need help shaping the supporting wording, I can assist.
