Latest Freelance Copywriter Project: Cosmeceutical Skincare Brand SHS

How good is your skin right now? It’s always a bonus to take on a new freelance copywriter project that teaches you something really useful and practical. And for me this month it’s a web copy project for cosmeceutical skincare brand Skin Health Science (SHS).

SHS asked me to draft up the copy for a skincare guide for their new, in-development e-commerce website. The aim of the guide is to help people to understand how the skin actually works. And why and how SHS product ingredients benefit the skin.

skincare copywriting = skincare tips

SHS sent me a wealth of scientific and medical-jargon research material as the basis for the guide.

Here’s what I found out:

  • Most off-the-shelf moisturisers don’t work! They might give the skin a nice feel, but they aren’t doing anything for your skin’s hydration.

  • Skincare ingredients that are scientifically proven to be beneficial to the skin include Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Retinol (Vitamin A) and Vitamin C.

  • Product formulations matter. If the molecules of the magic ingredients are too big, they can’t permeate the skin layers properly.

  • UV rays and free radicals are the skin’s worst enemy. They ruin the skin’s collagen, the stuff that makes your skin plump and wrinkle-free. Yes, I will be slapping on the sunscreen now, even when it’s cloudy.

Needless to say, this project has led to a huge overhaul of my skincare products. So thanks SHS! Read the Skincare 101 Guide (uploaded but under development) and take a look at their core product range.
